RSE Skills for KS4 & KS5 learners with SEND: Preparing for adult relationships
01:00 PM – 03:30 PM
This short interactive webinar focuses on how we can teach RSE to Key Stage 4 & 5 learners with SEND in an age and stage appropriate way. Through the lens of the Preparing for Adulthood Outcomes we take a skills focused approach to exploring some of the key RSE topics, in line with the emphasis on skills in the new RSHE guidance.   This webinar is ideal for SENCOs, RSE and PSHE subject leads, senior leaders with subject responsibility for the subject, and class teachers delivering RSE to learners with unique learning needs.  Participants will: Gain confidence to develop meaningful curriculum for learners in key stage 4 and 5 and beyond, equipping them with skills to navigate their personal and social lives safely.   Examine how RSE skills underpin all four strands of the Preparing for Adulthood Outcomes and can be taught across all areas of the curriculum.  Explore key topics related to adult relationships such as healthy and unhealthy relationships, contraception and sexual decision making.  Share experiences and best practice with colleagues, and develop your network This webinar forms part of the whole setting approach to RSE that we recommend and will enable you to develop a curriculum that is age appropriate, needs led, differentiated and personalised. Members Event: Developing Critical Thinking through discussion in RSE
03:30 PM – 05:00 PM
For the first time, Sex Education Forum is offering a 90-minute deep-dive workshop into the way educators bring critical thinking skills into the classroom, facilitated by RSE expert Dr Vicky Stubbs.    Designed for RSE and PSHE leads, teachers, and educators situated in schools working with young people, we'll focus on how to support critical thinking through well‑facilitated discussion, without losing sight of safety, boundaries, or the realities of the classroom.    Together, we’ll explore what critical thinking actually looks like in RSE practice, why it matters, and how it can be developed through clear frameworks, purposeful questions, and strong facilitation. You will take part in small‑group activities using real media prompts, with opportunities to observe, practice, and reflect on different discussion approaches.    This workshop will support you to:  Define critical thinking and recognise how it appears in young people’s responses to RSE topics.  Understand why critical thinking is essential in RSE, particularly in relation to relationships, consent, media influence, and social pressures.  Use discussion effectively by crafting open‑ended questions that promote reflection, analysis, and perspective‑taking.  Create and maintain safer spaces for dialogue, using shared agreements to support respect, boundaries, and emotional safety.  Confidently facilitate critical thinking discussions, including responding constructively when guidelines are challenged.   Develop a shared bank of question starters.    This deep-dive workshop is aimed at:   RSE and PSHE leads, teachers, and educators situated in schools working directly with young people.  Sharing and reflecting on your classroom practice will be a key element of the deep-dive experience.   Booking information:   This event is for Educator, Partner and Supporter Members of Sex Education Forum only.  This is small group event with capacity capped at 16. This event will be run online via Zoom. Please let us know at the time of booking if you need any support from us to access this event fully.
