Inclusive Relationships and Sex Education in Primary Schools
09:30 AM – 03:30 PM
Foundation level course  This one‑day course supports primary teachers and school leaders to prepare for the updated Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) statutory guidance, in place from September 2026, and to strengthen inclusive practice across the curriculum. It provides a structured opportunity to understand what is changing, reflect on current provision and build strong foundations for high‑quality RSHE that supports children’s wellbeing, safety and access to learning. The course uses clear examples and real classroom scenarios to support practical planning and confident delivery.  Why this course is important  The updated RSHE guidance introduces new content that can feel difficult to navigate alongside existing pressures on curriculum time and staff capacity. Many schools want clarity on what the changes mean for teaching, learning and policy writing, as well as reassurance about what can and should be taught both in the classroom and in partnership with parents and carers.  Increasing concerns about online safety, children’s mental wellbeing and behaviour in schools sit alongside expectations that RSHE supports children to understand relationships, boundaries and how to seek help. If children do not feel safe, included and understood, they are less likely to engage with learning. This course provides space to reflect on children’s perspectives and experiences and supports staff to plan RSHE that is clear, inclusive and appropriate, while placing safeguarding and accessibility at the centre of practice.  Alongside being packed with information relevant to your provision, this course serves as an opportunity to network, share ideas and trouble-shoot with colleagues from other schools, a reminder that you are never alone when navigating the challenges that come with teaching RSE.  Who this course is for  This Foundation course is designed for PSHE and RSE leads, primary teachers and senior leaders who are responsible for RSHE planning, policy or delivery. It is suitable for schools at different stages of development and for staff who want a clear and structured introduction to the updated guidance, with practical support to apply learning within their own setting.  Learning outcomes  You will leave the course with:  Clarity over the key changes to the new RSHE guidance and Ofsted Framework, and what this means for teaching, learning and developing your policy.    Greater understanding of how to deliver new content within ‘Online safety and awareness’ and ‘Respectful, kind relationships ‘, with time spent considering AI, pornography, social media and managing rejection.  Clear principles for planning and delivering inclusive, accessible and safer RSHE  Increased awareness of  how to build in opportunities for developing key social-emotional skills in to everyday practice  Practical tips and practice on how to answer questions for colleagues, children and parents.   Ideas on increasing engagement with parents and carers.   Signposting to additional resources and support.  How to take part: The webinar runs using zoom. Meeting ID and password will be emailed in advance.  Contact: info@sexeducationforum.org.uk

Embedding a Trauma-Sensitive Approach to RSE: Theory into Practice
09:30 AM – 03:30 PM
Course level: Developing Expert Practice  This one‑day course supports experienced RSE and PSHE teachers to deepen their practice and apply trauma-aware thinking to real classroom situations. It focuses on how to plan and teach sensitive topics with care, clarity and confidence to all learners, while keeping safeguarding and inclusion at the centre of RSE delivery. The course moves beyond theory and supports participants to put learning into practice within the realities of school life.  Why this course is important  RSE now covers subjects that are personal, complex and sometimes emotionally charged, yet teachers often have limited time and few opportunities to explore these topics in depth. Many practitioners report concern about causing distress, opening conversations they feel unprepared to manage, or responding to challenging views in ways that keep young people safe.  A trauma-sensitive approach supports teachers to understand how all kinds of past experiences, we may not be aware of, could be impacting our learner’s engagement with RSE.   This course also shows how being trauma-sensitive also requires awareness of our own personal values, assumptions and sensitivities, as these influence how topics are framed and discussed. It supports stronger foundations for safer RSE and helps schools build practice that protects wellbeing while supporting inclusion and access to learning.  Who this course is for  This 'Developing Expert Practice’ course is designed for established RSE and PSHE teachers and subject leads who already deliver RSE and want to develop their practice further. It is also suited to those with responsibility for curriculum quality, consistency and staff support, and for practitioners who want to lead trauma-sensitive RSE across their setting. Participants are expected to have prior experience of teaching RSE and a working understanding of statutory requirements.  Learning outcomes  This course will help you to:  Develop a clear understanding of what trauma is and how it can impact young people’s experiences of RSE.  Develop your understanding of how to design and deliver safer RSE lessons and activities through a trauma-sensitive, intersectional lens.  Consider your own values, perspectives and sensitivities in relation to key topics and how this might impact your RSE delivery.  Build your confidence in responding to different – and potentially antagonistic - points of view, opening-up rather than shutting-down conversations.  Examine what it means to have a trauma-sensitive whole school approach to RSE.  How to take part: The webinar runs using zoom. Meeting ID and password will be emailed in advance.  Contact: info@sexeducationforum.org.uk  How to pay You can purchase your ticket(s) online via card. For payment via invoice, please email info@sexeducationforum.org.uk. Invoices include an administration fee of £20.

Members Event: Developing Critical Thinking through discussion in RSE
03:30 PM – 05:00 PM
For the first time, Sex Education Forum is offering a 90-minute deep-dive workshop into the way educators bring critical thinking skills into the classroom, facilitated by RSE expert Dr Vicky Stubbs.    Designed for RSE and PSHE leads, teachers, and educators situated in schools working with young people, we'll focus on how to support critical thinking through well‑facilitated discussion, without losing sight of safety, boundaries, or the realities of the classroom.    Together, we’ll explore what critical thinking actually looks like in RSE practice, why it matters, and how it can be developed through clear frameworks, purposeful questions, and strong facilitation. You will take part in small‑group activities using real media prompts, with opportunities to observe, practice, and reflect on different discussion approaches.    This workshop will support you to:  Define critical thinking and recognise how it appears in young people’s responses to RSE topics.  Understand why critical thinking is essential in RSE, particularly in relation to relationships, consent, media influence, and social pressures.  Use discussion effectively by crafting open‑ended questions that promote reflection, analysis, and perspective‑taking.  Create and maintain safer spaces for dialogue, using shared agreements to support respect, boundaries, and emotional safety.  Confidently facilitate critical thinking discussions, including responding constructively when guidelines are challenged.   Develop a shared bank of question starters.    This deep-dive workshop is aimed at:   RSE and PSHE leads, teachers, and educators situated in schools working directly with young people.  Sharing and reflecting on your classroom practice will be a key element of the deep-dive experience.   Booking information:   This event is for Educator, Partner and Supporter Members of Sex Education Forum only.  This is small group event with capacity capped at 16. This event will be run online via Zoom. Please let us know at the time of booking if you need any support from us to access this event fully.
