Course level: Developing Expert Practice  This one‑day course supports experienced RSE and PSHE teachers to deepen their practice and apply trauma-aware thinking to real classroom situations. It focuses on how to plan and teach sensitive topics with care, clarity and confidence to all learners, while keeping safeguarding and inclusion at the centre of RSE delivery. The course moves beyond theory and supports participants to put learning into practice within the realities of school life.  Why this course is important  RSE now covers subjects that are personal, complex and sometimes emotionally charged, yet teachers often have limited time and few opportunities to explore these topics in depth. Many practitioners report concern about causing distress, opening conversations they feel unprepared to manage, or responding to challenging views in ways that keep young people safe.  A trauma-sensitive approach supports teachers to understand how all kinds of past experiences, we may not be aware of, could be impacting our learner’s engagement with RSE.   This course also shows how being trauma-sensitive also requires awareness of our own personal values, assumptions and sensitivities, as these influence how topics are framed and discussed. It supports stronger foundations for safer RSE and helps schools build practice that protects wellbeing while supporting inclusion and access to learning.  Who this course is for  This 'Developing Expert Practice’ course is designed for established RSE and PSHE teachers and subject leads who already deliver RSE and want to develop their practice further. For the first time, Sex Education Forum is offering a 90-minute deep-dive workshop into the way educators bring critical thinking skills into the classroom, facilitated by RSE expert Dr Vicky Stubbs.    Designed for RSE and PSHE leads, teachers, and educators situated in schools working with young people, we'll focus on how to support critical thinking through well‑facilitated discussion, without losing sight of safety, boundaries, or the realities of the classroom.    Together, we’ll explore what critical thinking actually looks like in RSE practice, why it matters, and how it can be developed through clear frameworks, purposeful questions, and strong facilitation. A specialist one-day course focusing on creating meaningful and inclusive RSE for learners with PMLD, exploring touch and consent. This unique one-day course is designed for teachers working with learners with profound and multiple learning disabilities, or combined and complex learning disabilities. This course is ideal for SENCOs, RSE and PSHE subject leads, senior leaders with subject responsibility for the subject, and class teachers delivering RSE to learners with profound and multiple disabilities, and significant learning and physical needs. Facilitated by RSE Specialist and teacher Rachael Baker, participants will: Consider the skills and abilities of your learners, and reflect on how this skillset can be employed to make RSE as meaningful and effective as possible. Explore the government RSE guidance and examine how the learning can be differentiated to make a meaningful and appropriate curriculum for learners with PMLD. Reflect on best practice in RSE as a discrete subject and throughout school life, including friendships, touch, personal care and learner wellbeing. Examine some accessible techniques and resources to approach key topics such as consent and touch, and public and private. Consider how to address sexualised behaviour, and how to approach this complex topic in an accessible, dignified and rights-based way.
