For Visiting Educators – Delivering RSE to Learners with SEND

This course will help visiting RSE providers to identify ways they can make their RSE more accessible for all learners and work in partnership with schools to increase the outcomes and effectiveness of their one-off sessions or short-term programs. It will give visiting specialists an overview of different kinds of learning needs and disabilities, key issues facing schools, ways to approach key topics and strategies to improve communication and engagement with sessions.  Participants will: Recap of what the government RSHE guidance says in relation to SEND learners, and how the SEND Code of Practice and the Preparing for Adulthood relate to RSE  Explore ways to approach key topics with learners with SEND  Reflect on how to select and develop relevant age-appropriate resources  Using case studies, reflect on potential barriers to learning  Consider ways to make the learning environment as inclusive and safe as possible;  Consider how to work with schools to best support learners with SEND with RSE;  Explore ways to assess learners understanding.  How to take part The webinar runs using zoom. Inclusive RSE for learners with PMLD

A specialist one-day course focusing on creating meaningful and inclusive RSE for learners with PMLD, exploring touch and consent. This unique one-day course is designed for teachers working with learners with profound and multiple learning disabilities, or combined and complex learning disabilities. This course is ideal for SENCOs, RSE and PSHE subject leads, senior leaders with subject responsibility for the subject, and class teachers delivering RSE to learners with profound and multiple disabilities, and significant learning and physical needs. Facilitated by RSE Specialist and teacher Rachael Baker, participants will: Consider the skills and abilities of your learners, and reflect on how this skillset can be employed to make RSE as meaningful and effective as possible. Explore the government RSE guidance and examine how the learning can be differentiated to make a meaningful and appropriate curriculum for learners with PMLD. Reflect on best practice in RSE as a discrete subject and throughout school life, including friendships, touch, personal care and learner wellbeing. Examine some accessible techniques and resources to approach key topics such as consent and touch, and public and private. Consider how to address sexualised behaviour, and how to approach this complex topic in an accessible, dignified and rights-based way. Share experience of engaging parents and wider school community with your curriculum to ensure a consistent approach and an effective partnership between home, school or college, and other. This one-day course will support teachers of learners with PMLD to feel confident that you are offering a robust and meaningful curriculum to your learners, informed by their personal needs and appropriate to their age and stage. The training will enable you to develop a curriculum that is needs led, differentiated and personalised. "Really brilliant to have a full day of PMLD specific training. This 2-hour interactive webinar focuses on how we can teach RSE to Key Stage 4 & 5 learners with SEND in an age and stage appropriate way. Through the lens of the Preparing for Adulthood Outcomes we take a skills focused approach to exploring some of the key RSE topics.   This webinar is ideal for SENCOs, RSE and PSHE subject leads, senior leaders with subject responsibility for the subject, and class teachers delivering RSE to learners with unique learning needs.  Participants will: Gain confidence to develop meaningful curriculum for learners in key stage 4 and 5 and beyond, equipping them with skills to navigate their personal and social lives safely.   Examine how RSE skills underpin all four strands of the Preparing for Adulthood Outcomes and can be taught across all areas of the curriculum.  Explore key topics related to adult relationships such as healthy and unhealthy relationships, contraception and sexual decision making.  Share experiences and best practice with colleagues, and develop your network This webinar forms part of the whole setting approach to RSE that we recommend and will enable you to develop a curriculum that is age appropriate, needs led, differentiated and personalised.  How to take part: The webinar runs using zoom. Delivering Inclusive RSE in Special Schools

Our one-day SEND specialist relationships and sex education (RSE) course is for PSHE leads, SENCO, teaching staff and members of the senior leadership team in special schools, supporting learners with additional and unique learning needs.  This foundation course gives RSE leads and delivering teachers the opportunity to explore the requirements of the statutory RSHE guidance in respect of learners with additional needs, and to  address values and attitudes towards RSE in the SEND learning environment.  The training considers specific challenges faced by learners with SEND, and supports teachers and staff to create inclusive, accessible and needs-led RSE   In this session we will:  Explore the statutory RSHE guidance and what it means for teachers and learners in special schools  Consider what good RSE looks like, and identify specific considerations for RSE in the SEND classroom  Understand how to assess, monitor and evaluate teaching and learning in RSE  Consider individual learners’ experiences of RSE and identify ways to overcome barriers to learning  Explore a range of resources and examine ways to approach topics such as touch and consent, public and private, different relationships and masturbation   Consider language and vocabulary, and how to ensure an LGBTQ+ inclusive curriculum  Increase teacher confidence in developing age-appropriate curriculum for learners with SEND in primary and secondary settings  Share experiences and best practice with colleagues, and develop your network  The training will be run remotely, with opportunities to learn from colleagues, and a full set of course materials made available digitally. The programme for the day runs from 9.30 – 3.30 and includes conferencing with the facilitator, specified time for individual activities and a lunch break.
